Had to look up the thought process about why 'Tologists practice the silent birth thing:
'Tom and Katie are likely to follow the church's "silent birth" guidelines during delivery, which means no music and no talking during the birth, which also means no screaming during the pains of labor.
The doctrine also states that newborns cannot be poked or prodded for medical tests or even spoken to for the first seven days of their lives, believing that babies go through so much pain during the birth, they shouldn't have to experience any further discomfort or sensory experience that could return later in life to haunt them. Thanks! I come across random stuff while I surf as I am waiting for an application I use to do it's thing. It's really slow.
There are so many strange rumors regarding Scientology silent birth practices!
As a Scientologist and a mother of 7, I can tell you most of what has been stated as "fact" in the "news" about Scientology birthing practices is just hogwash.
Scientologist mothers can and do make noise during birth. We can get pain relief if we want (including epidurals).
We DO hold our babies and cuddle them and love them.
