Why didn't he just own up to it in the first place?

Also, I was thinking about it this weekend, and there used to be a 'M Jones' above my name on my condo's directory. But that was a while ago. I remembered it, because they have my last name misspelled.

The way I am reading this, is that his wife was with him, when he went to pick up meth from his call boy?

'Haggard's wife Gayle was in the car when Haggard admitted to 9NEWS he bought meth from Jones, but threw it away.'

Or she was in the car, when he finally admitted to 9News that he bought meth?

Either way, I'm glad Mike Jones came out like he did. It shows the hypocrisy of holier-than-thou religios types. On the other hand, Mike Jones being a call boy and selling meth, doesn't really help improve the image of The Gays. But then again, that does make the Haggard ordeal, more salacious. Now we just need to find some dirt on Dobson.

Letter from Haggard: I am guilty of sexual immorality

In the letter, dismissed Pastor Ted Haggard expressed sorrow, remorse, guilt and asked for forgiveness - not only for himself, but for his accuser.

"I am so sorry," Haggard said in a letter read by Larry Stockstill, a member of the New Life Church overseer board. "I am sorry for the disappointment, the betrayal and the hurt. I am sorry for the horrible example I've set for you."

Haggard was accused of buying meth and engaging in a three-year "sexual business" relationship by former gay escort, Mike Jones.

After initially saying on Wednesday he did not know Jones, on Friday Haggard said he bought meth from Jones after going to him for a massage. Haggard said on Friday he threw the meth away after buying it, and did not use it.

Haggard was dismissed from his role as Senior Pastor of New Life Church on Saturday.

"The fact is, I am guilty of sexual immorality, and I take responsibility for the entire problem," Haggard said in the letter. "I am a deceiver and a liar."

Haggard went on to say there was a part of his life that was repulsive and dark which he'd been warring against his entire life.

"The public person I was wasn't a lie, it was just incomplete," Haggard said in the letter.

There was standing room only in the church, and many of the worshippers wept openly as the letter was read and while songs were sung.

"The accusations that have been leveled against me are not all true," Haggard's letter stated. "But enough of them are true that I have been appropriately and lovingly removed from ministry."

However, Haggard took responsibility for his actions.

"I created this entire situation," Haggard wrote in his letter. "The things that I did opened the door for additional allegations. I am responsible. I alone need to be disciplined and corrected. An example must be set."

Haggard expressed his love for his wife, and asked that she not be blamed for his actions.

The dismissed pastor also asked for forgiveness for his accuser, Jones.

"Please forgive my accuser. He is revealing the deception and sensuality that was in my life," Haggard's letter stated.

He went on to say he thanked God for his accuser.

Stockstill then read a letter from Haggard's wife, Gayle.

"I know your hearts are broken; mine is as well," Gayle said in her letter. "Yet, my hope rests in the Lord, who is forever faithful."

Haggard's wife Gayle was in the car when Haggard admitted to 9NEWS he bought meth from Jones, but threw it away.

"I love my husband Ted Haggard with all my heart. I am committed to him until death do us part," Gayle wrote in her letter.

Gayle said she would not change anything she taught the women of the New Life Church.

"For those of you who have been concerned that my marriage was so perfect that I could not possibly relate to those facing great difficulties, know that this will never again be the case," Gayle said in her letter.

Haggard and his wife said they would spend some time away from the parish and would never again assume a leadership role at the church which he founded. However, the church said the Haggards are welcome to come back and worship there.
