Mile 'High' City

I didn't get a ballot this year in the mail.

That sucks.

I'm glad this passed though:

Voters in Denver make marijuana enforcement their lowest priority

'DENVER - Denver voters have told authorities to back off enforcing marijuana laws for the second time in as many years - passing an initiative to make cracking down on pot use the "lowest law enforcement priority."

The initiative won soundly, despite protests from city officials who said it was meaningless.

It also is likely to set the stage for a court challenge over the initiative's authority to govern priorities of police and the district attorney.

Election officials are still counting ballots, but Initiative 100 has a solid lead of 56 percent to 44 percent.

The latest measure is the third marijuana-related initiative backed by the group Safer Alternative for Enjoyable Recreation - or SAFER - and outspoken leader Mason Tvert.

Denver joins Seattle, which adopted a similar measure in 2003. The Northwest city saw a significant decrease in the number of arrests for marijuana possession the years after it went into effect, according to the Seattle Times. Additionally, The Bay Area Reporter says San Francisco, Oakland and Santa Monica have also adopted similar legislation.'
