Jamie Oliver vs.Turkey Twizzlers

So I don't care if he is 'mockney', Jamie Oliver is my new idol. Channel surfing last night brought me to 'Jamie's School Lunch Project' on TLC. I'm a sucker for any cute Brits, so I hovered on this show.

The premise sounded interesting enough. Jamie works with schools and kids to get the school lunches to be healthier. I didn't realize Jamie was 'The Naked Chef' until I looked him up today. I once saw him on that show, make a 'gourmet' meal out of stuff found in the cupboard and fridge. Sounded edible when he finished.

So as the show progresses, you see how he is passionate about being a chef, and how he hates the crap the wee British ones are putting in their maw. I try to eat non-processed stuff as much as possible, and to see these kids obsess on Turkey Twizzlers [American Readers: yes, they are grody looking curly cues of turkey, battered and deep fried. Blegh. Glad we don't have those here in the states, though I wouldn't eat 'em], and all state that they had 'chips' for dinner the previous night.

What endeared me to Jamie, was his cute Essex accent, and his slight speech impediment. It reminds me of Cindy Brady. Also endearing, is the way he interacted with the kids. He didn't talk down to them, was amicable, and was only trying to look out for their future health.

So, Brits may mock him over there, but since us Yanks don't really know of him yet, we can like they guy. Or at least I can.
