Blurb Movie Reviews - 'James Dean'

James Franco did an amazing job and uncannily looks like Dean. He even managed to get down Dean's mannerisms and body language. Wow. Good job Franco!

I liked how the movie touched on his ambivalent sexuality. I am kind of a big Dean freak, and have read a lot on him. The movie was true to the fact that he gave off this image of being a 'hurt-soul', but he was also a major a-hole. Some of the biographies I have read, talk about how Dean openly used the affections of men in power, to advance his career.

One book even mentioned how he pretty much had a crush on Marlon Brando, and flirted with Paul Newman during a screen test. I think that was Donald Spato's book.

I think they could have expanded on the 'Rebel Without A Cause' portion of his life. Would have been interesting to see what they could do with the Sal Mineo aspect [censors at Warner Brother's had a hard time approving the film because they felt there was 'something going on visually between Mineo and Dean, that made them uncomfortable, yet they couldn't identify].

Or during filming of 'Giant', where he and Rock Hudson did not get along. Elizabeth Taylor often had to play mediator. I wonder if Hudson knew of Dean's penchant for sleeping with men to advance his career?

Overall, a great little biopic on Dean.
