Not Drivin' Good In The Neighborhood
6-year-old's joyride knocks out power, phone service
'BROOMFIELD - A hungry six-year-old got himself into a jam Tuesday morning when he decided to take his grandmother's car for a drive to Applebee's.
Broomfield Police received the call of a hit and run Tuesday morning and responded to Greenway Drive. When they arrived, they found an abandoned car that had hit a neighborhood power source.
Shortly thereafter a six-year-old came out of the nearby home with his grandmother and police were able to piece together what had happened.
Police say the child decided he wanted to get lunch at Applebee's, and went out the car and moved his child seat from the back of the car to the driver's seat. He then grabbed the keys to the car and started backing up, roughly 47 feet.
He eventually hit a curb before reversing an additional 29 feet, according to police. His mini joyride ended, however, when he hit a power source, causing both the phones and power to go out in the area.
The child went back inside the home to tell his grandmother what had happened and by the time the two stepped outside the police had arrived at the scene.
Xcel estimates roughly 200 people are without power, but they expect power to be restored by Tuesday evening.
It is unknown if any charges will be pressed against the child's grandmother.'

I did this once, but I was younger and just caused a couple of car accidents. Kids....
I once put the car in reverse, while parked and waiting for my mom in a King Soopers parking lot [it was an automatic].
It rolled out and blocked traffic.
She had the keys so I couldn't unblock the lane.
Ha ha.
