City on longest streak without murder in 40 years

DENVER - The city is in the midst of a streak that all of its citizens should be excited about.

Denver is in its longest stretch without a homicide in 40 years.

Police say a 24-year-old man shot in December who died in January was the last reported homicide. The gap without a reported homicide since that murder is the longest since 1966.

Police and criminal justice experts say there's no clear reason for the gap.

Throughout the past 10 years the number of homicides in Denver has fluctuated greatly. The numbers range from 94 in 2004 to 34 in 2000.

You know that's bad for business for someone.

Of course it's too bad my alley isn't included in those statistics.
