A question for a computer geek.

My computer died, and I got a new one. There is stuff I need off the old hard drive. Can I use a firewire connection to access the old drive, even though the old computer doesn't fully boot?

I don't get an error message on the old computer, it just does not boot past the black boot screen.

Do I have any chance, or is everything lost on that drive?

Both computers are HP [Mac users, yes, I know...blegh].
