How did he get in the house?

Did he break in? And what about the kids that weren't there? Did the old lady start cooking something then take a nap? Not that great of a reporting job on this one. 9 Wants To Know my ass.

Teen helps save great-great-grandmother from fire

WESTMINSTER - A 17-year-old helped a 91-year-old woman get out of a house fire as he was walking home from school last week.

On October 24, the Westminster Fire Department says 17-year-old Kyle Wagner was walking home from school when he smelled smoke coming from a house in the 7500 block of Bryant Street.

Authorities say Wagner told an 8-year-old boy Wagner was walking home to call 911 and went inside the home to look for an elderly woman and young children he knew lived there.

Wagner found 91-year-old Lydia Cooper, a great-great-grandmother, asleep in her bed, according to Westminster Fire.

Firefighters say Wagner woke her up and helped her out.

"I just closed my eyes and covered my mouth, reached down with my hand. I got to her bed and we got her out," said Wagner.

"When he woke me up, I thought it was a dream," said Cooper. "He says, 'Cover your nose and mouth,' and out we went."

Then Wagner went back into the house two more times to search for the young children. However, they were not at home.

Fire crews arrived and both Wagner and Cooper were transported to a local hospital for more medical attention.

Wagner has been nominated for the Westminster Fire Department's Citizen Lifesaving Award.

Firefighters say the fire was started by a smoldering pan in the kitchen. It was quickly extinguished and the home was ventilated.
