Winter Weight

So last year I opined that us humans probably sub-consciously pack on extra weight for the winter due to our innate caveman instinct about sparse food sources during the winter.

Well, I have been thinking about it this week as I have noticed a definite up-tick in the amount of food I have been craving.

This weekend I had an overwhelming craving for pork chops.

I never crave those.

Well, maybe just once a year, but it hit with a vengeance.

Also, lately I have had major hankerings for veggies and grapefruit juice.

Ooh, and hot chocolate and dairy products.

Top it off with the fact that as of Saturday, it has been rather chilly and dreary out, I really think we do pack on the poundage.

And considering the post on this last year was relatively around the same time, I think there's some merit to my hypothesis.

Today In - 'Strange Cravings'

I just got the most overwhelming hankerin' for apple butter.

Odd.

I think it's from seeing all the crab apple trees blooming.

Today In - 'Strange Cravings'

Besides hasbrowns, I have had a hankerin' for crab.

Last weekend, while at the store, they just got in some Alaskan King Crab legs.

I succumbed.

I bought two legs, and they were huge!!

Seriously, each was probably almost 30 inches in length.

They looked like pinkish/red basball bats.

Honestly, if I saw a live crab with that size legs, I'd be a little freaked.

Like a big spider coming to get you.

The only thing I hate about eating shelfish, is dismembering the body.

I had to crack the legs at it's joints in order to get it to fit in the pot.

But alas, my craving was more powerful than my ick factor.

Which got me to thinking, what is the nutritional value of crab?:

Alaskan King Crab - 'Rich in vitamin B-12, low in fat, contains zinc, magnesium, folate, vitamin C and omega's-3's which can reduce the amount of 'bad' cholesterol and triglycerides that are running around in your system. Unleash the power with crab!'
