So...

We all know that most salad dressings are full of fat and calories.

But if you think about it, veggies and such, are pretty low cal.

So say you eat a 3 lb. salad, with a tablespoon or two of dressing on the side, it kind of balances out, right?

Today In - 'Useless Info'

'Spring Fever is a real physical condition which commonly occurs when a sudden warm spell follows a long cold period.

When the temperature rises, the body has to get rid of heat; thus there's a dilation or expansion of the blood vessels so that blood can be carried to the body surface where heat can be lost quickly.

Some people experience an energetic feeling when this change happens due to the body's reaction to the great amount of internal work going on.'

I'm going to hell.

This story cracked me up due to what my brain conjured up of playing against a team where they all have ADD.
School apologizes after 100-0 basketball victory

'DALLAS - A Texas school whose girls basketball team beat another team, 100-0, has apologized, calling its win "shameful" and "a victory without honor."

The Covenant School of Dallas also has asked to forfeit the Jan. 13 game against Dallas Academy.

A parent who attended the game praised the Covenant players, but said spectators and an assistant coach were cheering wildly as their team edged closer to 100 points.

"I do think they ran up the score," said Renee Peloza, whose daughter plays for Dallas Academy. "I think the bad judgment was in the full-court press and the 3-point shots."

Dallas Academy has eight girls on its varsity team and is winless over the last four seasons. The academy specializes in teaching students struggling with "learning differences" such as short attention spans or dyslexia.

There is no mercy rule in girls' basketball that shortens the game or permits the clock to continue running when scores become lopsided. There is, however, "a golden rule" that should have applied in this contest, said Edd Burleson, the director of the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools, which oversees private school athletics in Texas.

In a statement on its Web site, the board chair and head of The Covenant School said it formally apologized to the other school after the story first appeared in the Dallas Morning News on Thursday morning.

"It is shameful and an embarrassment that this happened," the statement said. "We humbly apologize."

In asking to forfeit the game, the elite north Dallas Christian school also said, "A victory without honor is a great loss."

Jim Richardson, headmaster at the Dallas Academy, said he accepts the apology and that the two schools remain friends.

At a shoot around Thursday, several Dallas Academy players said they were frustrated during the game but felt it was a learning opportunity.

"We don't play to win, we play to have fun," said Lauren Click, a junior on the team. "I was pretty relieved the game was over."

Team members also said they are excited about some of the attention they are receiving from the loss, including an invitation from Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban to see an NBA game from his suite.

"Even if you are losing, you might as well keep playing," said Shelby Hyatt, a freshman on the team. "Keep trying, and it's going to be OK.

Almost Back.....

Dropped off the planet for a few days to recover from an altercation.

[Debating if I want to post the hazy details....]

I'm running at about 80% and trying to get back in to Land Of The Living.

Posting will resume once I am caught up and fully operational.

I don't get it.

I'm allergic to wool.

If I get anywhere near it, I break out in a rash and my eyes get dusty and watery, and my nose gets all irritated.

Yet, I can wear worsted wool.

And cashmere.

I know cashmere is from a goat while regular wool is from sheep, but I find it odd that I would have an issue with one and not the other.

I've read that people with wool allergies have them because of the lanolin in the wool.

But as far as I know, I don't have issues with lanolin.

I'm pretty sure I have used lotion with lanolin in it before.

Huh.

If I get sick in the next few days, it will be because of her.

She sounded like she was coughing up a lung.

I tried to not breathe to catch her sickness cooties.

Swimmers at GW Pool Report Hair Loss, Severe Itching

'Several members of the George Washington University swim team said they suffered substantial hair loss and severe itching last week after swimming in the campus pool, according to the school newspaper.

The Hatchet reported that the athletes' hair loss and itching could be due to a chemical imbalance in the Smith Center pool.

The swimmers said the condition lasted for about five days, and one told the paper his teammates lost about 70 percent of their body hair.

'I don't want to sound insensitive, but I look like a chemo patient', the swimmer told The Hatchet.

'It's embarrassing: being in class with splotchy hair and having to constantly scratch yourself.'

Another swimmer said he lost all of his arm hair and the hair on his teammates' heads changed color and became thinner.

The company that monitors pool equipment for the university said there was a 'glitch in the (chemical) monitoring system'.

Interesting

'A German study showed that drinking cold water burns calories.

Drinking about 2 cups of cold water — no warmer than 72 degrees — used up roughly 25 calories.

About 40% of the burn was for bringing the water from drinking temperature to body temperature.

Drink a liter a day and you're losing 5 pounds a year.'

Winter Weight

So last year I opined that us humans probably sub-consciously pack on extra weight for the winter due to our innate caveman instinct about sparse food sources during the winter.

Well, I have been thinking about it this week as I have noticed a definite up-tick in the amount of food I have been craving.

This weekend I had an overwhelming craving for pork chops.

I never crave those.

Well, maybe just once a year, but it hit with a vengeance.

Also, lately I have had major hankerings for veggies and grapefruit juice.

Ooh, and hot chocolate and dairy products.

Top it off with the fact that as of Saturday, it has been rather chilly and dreary out, I really think we do pack on the poundage.

And considering the post on this last year was relatively around the same time, I think there's some merit to my hypothesis.
