Oh man....

I don't even remember this graduation party in high school.

That pretty much sums up my senior year.

Exactly The Reason Why I Left

Today In - 'Shame Based Lecturing'

School speaker berates students over 'slutty' pictures

'WINDSOR – A school district is apologizing after a police officer invited to speak at a high school assembly called out students by name, saying their MySpace.com pages were inviting to sexual predators.

Windsor High School Principal Rick Porter has apologized to the parents of two high school girls targeted in the lecture by Cheyenne Police Officer John Gay on Tuesday.

Porter told parents he had heard Gay's Internet safety presentation before, and while he knew the officer would mention local students online postings, Porter told parents he was surprised by the tone and language used.

"He basically just said I was asking to be raped," said Shaylah Nordic, a Windsor sophomore.

A photo from Nordic's MySpace.com page, depicting her in a T-shirt and shorts, bending over and pointing at a new pair of shoes, was displayed on a screen in front of two separate student assemblies.

"He was saying that the posture of her rear end could be appealing to a sexual predator," said Ty Nordic, Shaylah's father.

"He did this in a mocking way," Ty said. "He took a pretty innocent picture and made it look sleazy."

Ty says Gay told the students that older men would be masturbating to her picture.

"She was belittled, embarrassed and humiliated," Ty said.

Ty says he accepts the school's apology but questions why teachers or administrators failed to intervene as Gay mocked his daughter until she ran from the room in tears. Gay then moved on to target photos of other Windsor students.

"I understand the intent of the program," Ty said. "But he went way, way, way too far."

His daughter agrees.

"The whole MySpace awareness thing, I am on-board 100 percent," said Shaylah. "But he could have done it in a different way."

Shaylah says teachers comforted her after she left the assembly but did not step in beforehand, even when other students yelled at Gay to leave her alone.

"My counselor said none of them knew what to do," Shaylah said. "(They didn't feel like) they had the authority to tell him to stop."

She says Gay called her later in the week to apologize.

Gay did not return a call requesting comment.

Porter declined an on-camera interview but agreed to answer questions submitted by e-mail. His response has not been received.'

I was kind of a Poindexter.

But in a good way.

C-Dawg has a post on shoes, and for some reason it brought up memories of how I used to dress in high school.

[I think it was his point about complicated Goth shoes.]

His rant on dress shoes made me remember how I rarely wore trainers to school.

I only had a pair in my locker if I had gym.

Plus, I rarely wore jeans.

I did Casual Fridays before it was even a term.

Ha ha.

Oh man, I wore button down shirts, and get this, even ties!

And not for only special occasions either.

Alex P. Keaton in da howse!

Ha ha.

I guess everyone noticed because in our Senior yearbook there are references to me and my natty threads.

In fact, I was voted 'Most Likely To Critique Celebrity Fashions', or something like that.

Who'd a thunk....

as a kid, that my job in the future would require heavy use of geography and time zone conversion.

Thank god it's not history, because I always hated that.

Whei Wong's having a busy month.

Between the trans-gendered kid, and the kid almost being abducted and the prinicipal being slow to respond [can't find article], now along comes this.

She needs a raise.

Or to move to a district that isn't so Desperate Housewives.

43x365

Like other architects I know, you were full of yourself.

Honestly, you were being stubborn when it came to non-essential details.

That's why we had to get the dean to intervene on your unrealistic expectations for the class.

For an art teacher, you sure were rigid about rules and such.

Which is why I decided to just stop going to your class and take the 'F'.

It was well worth it.

I had some great memories whilst ditching your class.

You caught me off guard, and kind of freaked me out, when you pulled me aside on the last day of school and said in a dead serious tone, 'Be careful out there'.

You are honestly, the worst teacher I have ever known.

I have no regrets sending you that email and copying the dean and my student advisor.

I hope you have retired by now.

Tug-of-war turns tragic at high school homecoming

'PARKER - It was supposed to be a celebration at Lutheran High School, but the homecoming festivities turned into a tragic accident.

During a pep rally inside the school's gymnasium Friday afternoon, the senior football players took to the court to play a game of tug-of-war with the junior football players.

Witnesses say during the competition, two juniors, who had the rope wrapped around their hands, started to scream.

Sophomore Jenni Kgerstad said it was a chaotic scene inside the school.

"Hearing it was pretty gross. There was like a lot of people screaming and just all blood flying everywhere and just people running out of the room," she said.

Parker Police say the boys suffered severe injuries, partially severing their hands.

"The injuries consisted of partial amputation of the right hand on both players," said Lt. Sam Realmuto of the Parker Police Department.

The boys, Henry Barrett and Mitch Helfer, were rushed to nearby hospitals, where they had to undergo surgery to save their hands.

Both boys were listed in stable condition Saturday afternoon.

Counselors were brought to the school for students who witnessed the accident or were affected by the event.

"We're praying for all you guys," said Kgerstad.

Lutheran High School says it has postponed all homecoming events until further notice.'

Forgotten Memory

This story just totally made me remember that I was in some special diorama program with the Museum when I was a kid.

I think it was part of when I was with the 'Gifted and Talented' program.

Funny thing though, is I don't really remember much, except hating the fact that one of my teachers had to drive me there and pick me up.

I also remember going in some of the dioramas and being in the workshops behind the scenes.

The building is ancient.

Wonder if she'll relapse.

UNC student says Web site is unfair

'GREELEY - Brittany Bethel says she is in the midst of a personal battle. "It is the hardest thing in my life," she said.

Now she says she is battling a public embarrassment as well and blames a feature on the University of Northern Colorado Web site.

"I was hurt and embarrassed and very upset when I actually saw my picture on the Web site," said Bethel.

Bethel is on UNC's banned student list. The list of names and pictures were posted on the site this week. The school says it is a response to the shootings at Virginia Tech University, but it admits not everyone on the list is a potential danger.

"It is associated with the shooting at Virginia Tech, so it's being implied that the people on it are somehow a danger to someone else and I am in no way a threat to anyone else," she said.

Bethel says she was working at the UNC recreation center in September when she collapsed from complications from an eating disorder. She says she was then diagnosed with Anorexia Nervosa.

As a result, she says she was suspended from the university because she was considered a threat to herself which breaks the school's honor code of conduct.

It states that a violation includes, "Conduct which threatens or endangers the health, safety, or welfare of any person or university property."

The interpretation of "any person" includes being a danger to one's self.

So Bethel finds herself on a list with people who have been accused of criminal offenses. In fact, her picture is right next to Mitch Cozad, a former member of the football team accused of stabbing a fellow teammate.

"It is like I am being labeled a criminal," she said. "It is so hurtful to be labeled when you are struggling with something like this."

Nate Haas, a spokesman from UNC, says they cannot talk about a student's medical condition.

"The people are on the list for a wide range of reasons. They are not necessarily dangerous but they all violated the student code. They are not welcome on campus. We feel the Web site is important," said Haas.

Bethel wants the school to take her picture off the Web site or clarify that her suspension was based on a medical reason. She has not heard back from the university.

"I have been facing the hardest thing of my life. This is just adding a lot more stress," she said.'

'Pretty random fiesta, eh?'

Cleverly Foolish posted about his dreams today, and it reminded me of a dream I had this morning/last night.

I usually don't remember my dreams, unless they are really vivid. Like the time I hung out with Lindsay Lohan, and felt sorry for her. Or the time I got high with Ashton Kutcher.

This dream stood out because it involved this guy, Keith, I knew in high school.

I had known of Keith since the 7th grade. Since day one, I had a total crush on him. I couldn't really do anything about it, though, since he wasn't a 'mo.

Later in high school, due to being involved in the same clubs and student government, we actually worked on stuff together. Still had the crush, but at least now I was hanging out/talking to him.

Keith could have been considered one of the popular-jock types in school. I hung with most of them during the school week, and Keith was no exception. On the weekends, I was too busy being a raver to attend keggers at the popular kids' suburban McMansions.

In fact, in an odd way, Keith used to revel in my stories of the weekend, come Monday morning. [I was a bit of a partier].

Ok, now here's the dream. Keith and I, along with a bunch of people, are on a boat rescuing people at some beach resort. The dream wasn't odd in itself, but what was odd, was that Keith was so explicitly in it. It always makes me wonder, how your subconscious concocts ingredients for dreams. I haven't thought about/seen Keith since the high school reunion.

So as I am lying there, trying to garner the motivation to get up for the day, I had a flashback to a funny/weird incident with Keith.

We were staying at the Hotel Colorado in Glenwood Springs for a regional competition. This was the trip where me and my friend Brandi, actually snuck away from the conference/competition, to go get stoned with some of the local kids at their house. Brandi and I eventually get back, and sneak in that night. per procedure, the guys and girls stay in separate rooms. But on our way back, we run in to this girl Kelly [one of the hottest girls in school - who also happened to be Brandi's roommate on the trip, and Keith. [Honestly, if the teachers knew half of what went on on our conference trips, they would be shocked, and probably fired].

We tell them we just scored some bud from the locals, and all four of us sneak off to, of course, go get high. Eventually we rejoin our group. Someone recounts that the hotel is supposed to have a ghost. While being stoned, this freaks out Brandi and Kelly. As it is getting late, the girls ask Keith and I to stay in their room because they swear they heard/saw the ghost.

So Keith and I sneak in, and the four of us end up staying up way too late, just laughing and goofing around. Eventually we pucker out, and somehow, Keith and I end up in Kelly's bed. She ends up sleeping in the middle.

While trying to get to sleep, Keith and I continue to chat a bit, and then since we were still high, we got a serious case of the giggles. The girls were getting upset cause we were keeping them up, but you know how maniacal your laughter can get while high.

Sadly, no kinky business happened that night. If I knew then, what I know now, I would have made a move on Kelly and Keith. But alas, that didn't happen.

I only ran in to Keith once, after graduation. It was at the pool of his grandmother's townhome. [I was there with a friend who also lived in the complex].

When I saw Keith at the reunion, it showed how time had passed. He had acquired a paunch, and was bald as Mr. Clean. Met his wife, and found out he runs a construction company here in town. It was cool though, because our interaction, returned as if a day had not passed.

So yah, I wondered why him of all people, would pop up in my dream. Totally random.
