I'm really beginning to hate this time of year.
As per usual, the boss at The Corporation let everyone and their second cousin take off the last week of November through to Jan. 2 leaving just a skeleton crew of 4 to cover for the entire twelve.
This has been the case the last three years.
And as usual, I'm stuck working trying to put out fires with limited resources.
But to make this year extra special, I am also the after hours on-call person, which means even when I leave work for the day, I'm potentially not done working.
I have already been paged after hours the last two nights.
And of course they weren't simple issues, either.
Which has left me cranky and stressed like a big bag of hurt.
So that is why I haven't been around much this week.
In fact, it might not be until next week that things are back to normal, so hold tight fans and readers.
At least we're not 24/7 and have to work the actual Holiday-days anymore.

This weirds me out.
Teen commits suicide in front of Webcam
People were watching through a body building Web site
'FORT LAUDERDALE, Florida - A South Florida teen died of a lethal drug overdose in front of a live online webcam audience 12 hours after he started blogging about his plan to commit suicide, an investigator said Friday.
Abraham Biggs, 19, died Wednesday from a toxic combination of opiates and benzodiazepine, a drug used to treat insomnia and depression, said Wendy Crane, an investigator with the Broward County medical examiner's office. At least one of the drugs was prescribed to him and it's unclear how he got the others, Crane said.
Some of those watching encouraged Biggs, others tried to talk him out of it, and a few were debating whether the dose he took was lethal, Crane said. It's unclear how many people were watching.
Biggs stated his intentions on a forum at bodybuilding.com, where some users said they did not take him seriously because he had made previous statements about killing himself, Crane said. Biggs posted a link from there to Justin.tv, a site that allows users to broadcast live videos from their webcams.
Someone finally notified the moderator of the body building site's forum, who traced the teen's location to Pembroke Pines and called police, Crane said. Biggs was dead by the time they got to his house around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Crane said. He had started blogging at 3 a.m.
"He was just seen laying on the bed at that point," she said.
Condolences poured into his MySpace page, where the mostly unsmiling teen is seen posing in a series of pictures with various young women.
A woman who answered the phone at Biggs' home and identified herself as his sister said the family was still dealing with his death and declined immediate comment.
Biggs' father, Abraham Biggs Sr., told ABCNews.com that he was not home when his son died. He said his son struggled with depression and had been prescribed benzodiazepine to treat bipolar disorder. Biggs had been "doing better," his father said. "He was a good kid."
The elder Biggs said he was upset that Justin.tv streamed his son's suicide live.
"There seems to be a lack of control as to what people put out on the Internet," the elder Biggs said. "There's a lot of garbage out there that should not be, and unfortunately this was allowed to happen."
In a statement, Justin.tv CEO Michael Seibel said: "We regret that this has occurred and want to respect the privacy of the broadcaster and his family during this time."'

Hmmm...
Debbie Gibson - 'Only In My Dreams'
Ya know.... the lyrics are kinda deep:
'Every time I'm telling secrets
I remember how it used to be
And I realized how much I miss you
And I realize how it feels to be free
Now I see I'm up to no good
And I wanna start again
Cant remember when I felt good
No I cant remember when
Chorus:
No, only in my dreams
As real as it may seem
It was only in my dreams'
You could totally make a druggy Stranglers-type version of this song.
Just for fun:
Ha ha.
Today's Fave Comment
'I tried something similar to this and it actually worked really well.
But instead of white noise I used the Fleet Foxes album and instead of ping pong balls on the eyes I ate a bunch of psilocybin mushrooms.
Totally works.'

Strangers Have The Best Candy
Paying it backwards' at the drive-thru
'LOVELAND - Call it a Venti Caffe Latte of love.
At the Starbucks drive-thru in Loveland, more and more people are pulling up to the pick-up window to find they owe nothing. They're then told the person ahead of them paid their bill.
"It kind of almost took my breath away for a minute," said Lindell Green, a Loveland resident. "It was just such a wonderful surprise."
Green then paid for the person behind him.
"This is paying it backwards," he chirped.
Starbucks employee Julia Domascieno says - for reasons she can't explain - this random act of kindness is becoming less and less random.
"I've seen it go through 15 cars," she said.
Of course, this idea of paying it backwards wasn't born at this coffee shop and it's not limited to its drive-thru.
Another coffee joint in Loveland, The Black Cup, is also reporting an uptick in the number of people taking care of the stranger waiting in back of them.
This kind gesture is also being found in checkout lines at various places across Colorado.
On Sunday, Ault's Ann Bradley approached the cashier at the Wal-Mart in Greeley to discover the man in front of her had put $20 toward her bill.
Lindell Green thinks he may have an explanation for the growing generosity.
"With the way our economic world is kind of in the pits right now, I think something like this shows just how many good people are out there," he said.'
So....
I have started watching season 1 of Gossip Girl, and I must say, it is pretty trashy.
Reminds me of Melrose Place.
Funny thing, is that there are supposed to be in high school, yet they're seen sipping martinis at a hotel.
I thought that was totally unbelievable... until I remembered when I was in New York for school, I never got carded anywhere I went either.
But that was the early 90's.
Also, I find 'Dan' kinda hubba hubba.

Prop Hate - An Update
From Commenter h.l.m:
'Guess what? Jim Domen is an Ex-Gay
Here's the image that started it all:
http://img03.picoodle.com/img/img03/3/11/5/f_latimesm_d551cda.jpg
Here's a letter that I received from a Pastor who thinks that I'm in favor of Prop 8. He's informing me that people have been contacting Jim Domen and they're angry.
Text of the email is below:
YORBA LINDA—Pastor Jim Domen of Rose Drive Friends Church has been the target of persecution by marriage opponents; not just him, but his girlfriend as well. Jim is one whom the Lord delivered from a life of struggle with same-sex attractions. He has been a vocal supporter of Proposition 8. He was photographed on Election night celebrating the results of Proposition 8, both he and his girlfriend. The photographs were published in The Los Angeles Times, The Orange County Register, and The Chicago Tribune. Since then, blogs were established to target both Jim AND his girlfriend for verbal persecution, particularly when it was discovered that he is an “ex-gay.”
Please email/phone Pastor Jim and offer your words of encouragement and your prayers as we stand with this dear brother of ours who is suffering persecution for our Lord’s sake.

F'd up ending!
Twisted movie.
Deep, dark, and slow.

Prop Hate
From J'adore Joey:
'We want you to pay very close attention to the faces of these people above. These are the faces of hatred. These are the faces of ignorance. These are the faces of hypocrisy, injustice and intolerance.
At an Irvine Hotel yesterday, Bob Knocke of Mission Viejo, CA, Amanda Starfield of Monrovia, CA, Jim Domen of Yorba Linda, CA and J.D. Gaddis, also of Yorba Linda, CA, celebrated as early returns came in showing the approval of a ban on Proposition 8 which calls to overturn the right that California's Supreme Court had granted gays to marry.
Currently, the proposition is at a 52% approval rate which means that it will most probably be voted into effect. We are completely stunned and utterly shocked that, in this day and age, in a state which we truly believed to be a liberal leader supporting the challenges which minorities face daily, an active motion towards inequality could be a reality.
This isn't just a major loss for the people of California, it's an incredible setback for the country as a whole which historically looks to California as a trendsetter on their own similar issues.
Read more about this travesty at Los Angeles Times, and visit No On Prop 8 to help make a change......if it's not too late.
UPDATE: A few friendly readers wrote in with contact information for the horrible Bob Knocke, Jim Domen and Amanda Starfield pictured in the above photo. Please give them a call or email them and let them know how you feel.

Huh.
You would think the Chinese government wouldn't be to keen on letting the people vote.
Even in a mock election.
Obama gets China’s youth vote
BEIJING – Judging by the reactions to the life-size cardboard cutouts of Sens. John McCain and Barack Obama, the latter was the clear favorite in a hotel conference room in Beijing early Wednesday morning.
Crowds of young Chinese waited impatiently to pose with the cardboard Obama for their cameras. One female student stealthily turned away the McCain cutout so she and her friends could huddle more comfortably beside the president-elect.
It was all part of a dual-pronged effort by the American Embassy in Beijing to educate Chinese on the U.S. electoral process and to celebrate the election results for what some call the most historic presidential race in decades.
The U.S. Embassy, with assistance from the American Chamber of Commerce and the American Center for Educational Exchange, set up mock voting booths and handed out pamphlets explaining the process.
First ‘vote’ for many Chinese
Crowds of young Chinese read the mock ballots, diligently filled them out, and then stood before cameras in front of the ballot box. It was the first time any of them had cast a vote – real or imaginary.
"It’s exciting," said She Rui, a 24-year-old graduate student in international relations at People’s University. The election, he said, "is very important, because it gives the people a chance to express their needs [and] to choose their leaders."
He and some of his fellow students said they were happy Obama won. "He is young and can give fresh blood to American society," said 21-year-old Xing Yu Jie.
